A Journey from Personal Experience to Pharmacy: Sarah Lutes' Story

pharmacist story Jul 29, 2024

Choosing a career that makes a difference can be challenging. For Sarah Lutes, a Pharmacy Manager in Clinical Services, personal experience illuminated her path.

“I never considered pharmacy as a career. I didn't fully know what pharmacists did.

But once I realized this was exactly what I wanted. It encompassed everything I liked about science and health care,” says Sarah.

A personal connection to oncology deeply influenced her career path.

At 11, Sarah’s mother was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. At that time, pharmacists were not heavily involved in clinical areas, leaving a noticeable gap in the health care team. This experience motivated her to specialize in oncology, determined to provide the support their family once needed.

“The whole reason I was interested in oncology from the start was because of my mom’s diagnosis.

Looking back, it would have been great to have a pharmacist as part of her care team.”
